Meet our local councillor - Angela McClements
Hello Arleston Neighbourhood Scheme Members.
I thought I would introduce myself to you as the Borough Councillor for Arleston Ward. I am proud of my Arleston roots and strongly believe in community pride and ensuring that the community work together on issues that are important to them. Since being elected in 2007 I have worked hard across the ward, holding regular weekly surgeries at the Community Centre and have taken up hundreds of local issues right across Arleston.
I am delighted that a Neighbourhood Watch Group has been set up in Arleston recently and look forward to working alongside the Group and the local Arleston Police Team in tackling the issues that residents are concerned about. I know that there are many residents who are concerned about anti-social behaviour and want to live in a strong, safe and friendly community. That’s why a Neighbourhood Watch Group is important to reduce the fear of crime, improving home security and accurate reporting of suspicious incidents and fostering a community spirit. Partnership working is important and I have continued to carry out my monthly ward walks with the police during Covid .
I am Chair of Arleston Residents Group who meet (before Covid) 6pm on the 3rd Monday of every month at Arleston Community Centre. Unfortunately Covid has put a stop to meetings, but hopefully early next year we can begin to get back to regular meetings again. I also chair the successful Arleston Memories Group which I started 9 years ago to bring people together right across the Arleston, giving them the opportunity to share memories of growing up in Arleston.
Arleston Community Centre is the hub of our community and I was at the forefront of saving it from closure in 2016 and set up a Trustees Group made up of myself, residents and volunteers ensuring that our Community Centre remained open for local community groups, activities and celebrations. We are always looking for more Trustees to join us so if you are interested please let me know. During Covid it has been used as a foodbank by Telford & Wrekin Interfaith Group and provides breakfast parcel provisions for our most vulnerable families in Arleston and College. Working with the town councillors from Arleston, I also set up a school uniform project during the summer period to support those families who needed support buying a school uniform for their children.
You are always welcome to contact me either by email: angela.mcclements@telford.gov.
Wishing you all a safe and happy Christmas. It will be different for many of us, but we can hopefully look forward to a brighter future in 2021.
