Arleston Neighbourhood Watch - June 2021 Newsletter
Welcome to this month's newsletter!
We are pleased to welcome new followers to our social media profiles and also a group of new scheme members who have registered on our official scheme!
We hope that you are all keeping well and that life is gradually getting back to some normality for you.
Since our newsletter in May 2021, quite a lot has happened for us! We have had our own posters and business cards designed by a local graphic designer!
Yasmine, who lives in Arleston, came up with a design that we were instantly impressed with. We used a photo that local resident Paul Kalinauckas had shared with us of a local street sign. Yasmine came up with the font for the contact details and we decided on what wording to have on the posters. A group effort led to a design that looks fantastic!
We will be displaying posters on notice boards within our local community and at our local community centre. Business cards will be given to local residents and to our local officers who can distribute them to any victims of crime.
We want our community to come together in raising more awareness about our scheme. We hope that in raising more awareness we will be able to achieve our goals too.
As a scheme we would like to:
Reduce / prevent local crime and disorder
- Reduce fear of crime
- Address issues relating to antisocial behaviour
- Create safer neighbourhoods
- Build community spirit and cohesion
- Reassure members of the public
- Enhance partnership working with other community groups
- Assist in the detection and apprehension of criminals through members providing information to the police
- Improve quality of life and the local environment

Our scheme was only registered in August of last year. So far, we have done all that we can to help make Arleston a safer place to live.
Since our last newsletter, we have had a lot of new members join our scheme! We are really pleased that the message is getting out there about us. Please help us to spread the word!
Thank you 😊
Who we work with
We work closely with the police who are based in Wellington Police Station. Due to staff movements, we have two new officers who have joined the team.
PC Pete Rigby has joined the team aswell as PC Rich Cleeve. Both officers have a lot of experience in working with safer neighbourhood teams. This is a fantastic gain for Arleston & College and we look forward to working with both officers in the future.
Please ensure that if you ever need to contact the police, that you call 101 or 999 in the event of an emergency. Thank you
Catalytic Converter Theft
We were made aware by a local resident that a number of catalytic converters had been stolen from vehicles parked in Arleston.
Thieves targeted the vehicles in the early hours of the morning. We would like to share some information with you all about how to prevent your vehicle from being targeted in the future.
We have also put an article together with more crime prevention tips. If you would like more information, please visit this link

Anti Social Behaviour
We have received a number of reports of anti social behaviour taking place within our community. Due to recent reports, we can confirm that CCTV cameras have been installed in areas where anti social behaviour has been a problem.
We hope that the CCTV cameras will deter those who have carried out asb in the past. We would like to thank our local police officers, our local councillor Angela McClements & the council for acting upon residents concerns raised with us. All 3rd parties acted promptly to ensure that cameras were installed within our community.
If you become a victim of anti social behaviour, please do not suffer in silence. Please call the Police via 101 or report directly via www.westmercia.police.uk
Alternatively, you can report via crimestoppers
We would like to share some tips on how to deal with anti social behaviour
We have been advised that a shed was broken into on Harvey Crescent on Sunday 30th May 2021. A number of power tools were stolen.
Also on Abbey Road, a house had it's kitchen window popped open during the course of the night.
We would like to share some tips with local residents on how you can keep your property safe. Please visit the links below for more information

Neighbourhood Watch Week
We will be celebrating our very first "Neighbourhood Watch Week" as a scheme between 5th June 2021 & 11th June 2021.
We have a number of different events that residents can get involved in!
Why not join the team of volunteers who will be taking part in a community litter pick around Arleston on Saturday 5th June 2021 & Sunday 6th June 2021?!
For anyone who is interested in taking part, all you need is yourself, a litter picker or some gloves. Some rubbish bags and a good pair of walking shoes!
We want to see how many bags of rubbish are collected from around Arleston! We want to see photos of residents taking part. We also want to know about the different types of items that you find!
Our local councillor Angela McClements will be taking part. Also, local resident Paul Kalinauckas is also taking part. Paul is a street champion and he often goes litter picking around our community. Well done Paul!
We are also having an "Olliefullness Treasure Hunt" for local children to take part in. Ollie is a local boy, and he hopes to bring some of his joy to the community by sharing his bags , worry pets and jars to individuals who are struggling with their mental health.
Ollie and his mum have kindly agreed to donate some worry pets to Arleston Neighbourhood Watch for us to use for a treasure hunt!
If you want to find out more about our treasure hunt, please give us a follow on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter!
On Thursday 10th June 2021, our local officers will be setting up their mobile police station in Arleston between 15:00pm - 16:00pm. Location yet to be confirmed, so please keep an eye out across our socials for more information coming soon!
This is a great opportunity to meet our local police team and will give residents the chance of discussing any concerns that they may have.
During the course of the week, we will be attending a number of courses which we hope will be of use to us in the future. We hope that the information that is provided, will be of an advantage to our fellow neighbours in the future.
So, June is going to be a really busy month for Arleston Neighbourhood Watch! We look forward to holding events for our community to get involved in. We also look forward to gaining new knowledge and experience that will benefit all.
Acknowledgement from our region's Police & Crime Commissioner about the handing of non emergency calls
Police Crime Commissioner, John Paul Campion has raised concerns about Wesr Mercia Police’s non-emergency 101 call handling.
He has sought assurance that there are clear plans in place to deliver sustained improvements for the public.
We have received quite a few comments from residents of Arleston who have had problems in getting through to 101 in the past. Let's hope that the non emergency improves in the near future.
