A statement from Cllr Angela McClements

Parking spaces at Kingsland

The parking spaces at Kingsland and Kingsway Crescent were requested by residents a couple of years ago and there was a consensus amongst those residents for the work to be done.  On both these islands the road is very narrow and cars could not get past if a car was parked on the road and they had to go onto the grass to get around.

The John Broad Avenue was looked into a few years ago and I did knock on residents doors to see if they would like parking spaces.  Unfortunately, at that time a number of residents did not want to see any parking spaces and wanted to the green to be left.  Indeed a few were very angry that there was a possibility of the green being lost to parking bays.

However in view of the concerns raised recently we are now looking into it again and hopefully there will be an opportunity to consult those residents who live in the properties around the green again to see if a consensus can be reached on potential parking bays.  We will be suggesting that not all the green would necessarily be taken up by parking bays so that may be a helpful message when the Council consults to get agreement
