Arleston Neighbourhood Watch - We need your help
January 2021
We need your help
We need your help in building pride within our community. Since our official scheme was launched in August 2020, we have been inundated with messages about issues that can be reported to Telford & Wrekin Council by anyone who lives in the area.
We have been notified of flytipping, rubbish not being collected, street lights not working etc
We would like to ask residents to report any of these issues to the council via the Council's website or via the "Everyday Telford App". Please refrain from posting about environmental issues that you are unhappy about on our Facebook group. Instead, take the time to report the issue directly to the council so appropriate action can be taken.
Reporting is easy. All you have to do is select the most appropriate option and provide details of where the issue is. Once you have provided all information requested, submit the online submission and you will receive an acknowledgement email. So please help our community by taking the appropriate action.
We would also like to invite members of our community to volunteer to help us with the running of our scheme. As you may be aware, there have been numerous concerns about speeding vehicles travelling in and around Arleston. We suggested setting up a community speed monitoring group, however we only received one application. In order to run a group, we need 6 volunteers. If you would like to become a volunteer and help us tackle speeding as a concern, please send us an email.
We are also looking for volunteers who may be interested in doing litter picks or carrying out maintenance on behalf of the scheme. It would also be helpful if we had a point of contact for each road in Arleston so we can keep up to date with what is happening in that area. Please let us know if you are interested in helping out.
In 2021, our mission
In 2021, we want to remain committed to working alongside our neighbours to help make Arleston a safer, friendlier and vibrant place to live.
We would like all members to support us in the spirit of our values: neighbourly, community-focused, inclusive, proactive, trusted and collaborative.
As an official scheme, we would like to concentrate on the following during 2021
- Reduce / prevent local crime and disorder
- Reduce fear of crime
- Address issues relating to antisocial behaviour
- Create a safer neighbourhood
- Build community spirit and cohesion
- Reassure members of the public
- Enhance partnership working with other community groups
- Assist in the detection and apprehension of criminals through members providing information to the police
- Improve quality of life and the local environment
In order for us to achieve this in 2021, we would like the community of Arleston to work with us in achieving our goals. Please report any instances of crime that you witness by calling 101. Alternatively, please report via the West Mercia Police Website or crimestoppers. Specially trained call operators will ask you appropriate questions that will help the police investigate what has happened.
If we all work together on reporting crime, we can ensure that the police are aware of what is happening in our area. If crime isn't reported, this doesn't give a true reflection of what is happening and this could result in further instances of crime in the future.
If you do become aware of an instance of crime taking place in our area and you would like to make us aware of it, please send us a message via our Facebook page or via email. Please ensure that any instances of crime are reported to the police as a first point of call. Once we have become aware of an instance of crime, we will then make fellow residents aware of the details by providing a post on the Facebook group or by sending out emails to those registered on the scheme. We want to ensure residents are kept informed so they can remain vigilant. If you do witness anything related to the crime mentioned, please call 101 as soon as you can.
We will provide regular updates via our Facebook page and group to keep members up to date with any latest news etc. We will also continue to send our emails to residents who have joined us on our official scheme. We will continue to provide information on scams to raise awareness. We will continue to share information on crime prevention too.
We will continue to work with the local police officers, our local councillor and the council in 2021. We will also continue to maintain working relationships with other organisations too.
Please remember that this scheme has been set up to build a safer community for us all to live in. Our scheme is run by a small number of volunteers who give up their own time to make our neighbourhood a better place. A lot of time and effort has gone in so far. We want to do all that we can in the future to build a safer neighbourhood. Therefore, we would like to welcome new volunteers to work with us in the future. If you are interested in joining us, please send us an email.
