Arleston Neighbourhood Watch - February 2021 Newsletter

Welcome to this month's edition of our newsletter!

This month has been quite a busy month for us so far. We would like to share some information with you that may be useful

Police Appeals

If you have any information about either of these appeals, please contact West Mercia Police and quote the appropriate reference number.

Please be vigilant

We have received several reports of men taking photos of houses and cars in our local area.

Instances of this have taken place on Churchill Road, Elmwood and Woolam Road. We have also been made aware of an instance of this type of activity taking place in Hadley.

May we remind you that if you do see anyone acting suspiciously, please call the police ASAP via 101. Please note the date and time, location, who you saw and what you saw. If you saw someone getting in to a vehicle, please make a note of the vehicle registration number and make and model.

We have spoken to police to discuss these sightings in further detail. They have advised that they will continue to patrol the area at all times of day and will keep an eye out for those who have been described in witness reports.

We are not aware of why these people have been seen taken such photographs. However, one thing to consider is that your property and your vehilce(s) remain secure.

May we remind you to ensure that you vehicle(s) and properties are kept safe and secure. Use a CCTV camera if you have one and make sure that you review recorded footage on a regular basis. If you do see anything suspicious on your CCTV, please keep a copy and make the police aware of it. They may need a copy of the recording for further evidence.

Please use security lights if you have them. If you have to go out at night, consider leaving lights. You may want to consider using a timer so lights will automatically come on when you are out.

We have been assured that crime rates for burglary in and around Arleston are low. However, please take a look at the information contained within the links below for some useful crime prevention tips:

Drug Paraphernalia - Warning

We have been made aware by a resident that drug paraphernalia has been thrown over their garden wall.

If you become aware of any drug paraphernalia, please report it to the local council who will arrange for it to be collected and disposed of correctly.

Do not dispose of the item(s) that you find.

Please ensure that you check your gardens if you do have any children in your household. We wouldn't want any of these items to get in to the wrong hands

Please remain vigilant

Thank you

In 2021, our mission

In 2021, we want to remain committed to working alongside our neighbours to help make Arleston a safer, friendlier and vibrant place to live.

We would like all members to support us in the spirit of our values: neighbourly, community-focused, inclusive, proactive, trusted and collaborative.

As an official scheme, we would like to concentrate on the following during 2021

  • Reduce / prevent local crime and disorder
  • Reduce fear of crime
  • Address issues relating to antisocial behaviour
  • Create a safer neighbourhood
  • Build community spirit and cohesion
  • Reassure members of the public
  • Enhance partnership working with other community groups
  • Assist in the detection and apprehension of criminals through members providing information to the police
  • Improve quality of life and the local environment
In order for us to achieve this in 2021, we would like the community of Arleston to work with us in achieving our goals. Please report any instances of crime that you witness by calling 101. Alternatively, please report via the West Mercia Police Website or crimestoppers. Specially trained call operators will ask you appropriate questions that will help the police investigate what has happened.

If we all work together on reporting crime, we can ensure that the police are aware of what is happening in our area. If crime isn't reported, this doesn't give a true reflection of what is happening and this could result in further instances of crime in the future.

If you do become aware of an instance of crime taking place in our area and you would like to make us aware of it, please send us a message via our Facebook page or via email. Please ensure that any instances of crime are reported to the police as a first point of call. Once we have become aware of an instance of crime, we will then make fellow residents aware of the details by providing a post on the Facebook group or by sending out emails to those registered on the scheme. We want to ensure residents are kept informed so they can remain vigilant. If you do witness anything related to the crime mentioned, please call 101 as soon as you can.

We will provide regular updates via our Facebook page and group to keep members up to date with any latest news etc. We will also continue to send our emails to residents who have joined us on our official scheme. We will continue to provide information on scams to raise awareness. We will continue to share information on crime prevention too.

We will continue to work with the local police officers, our local councillor and the council in 2021. We will also continue to maintain working relationships with other organisations too.

Please remember that this scheme has been set up to build a safer community for us all to live in. Our scheme is run by a small number of volunteers who give up their own time to make our neighbourhood a better place. A lot of time and effort has gone in so far. We want to do all that we can in the future to build a safer neighbourhood. Therefore, we would like to welcome new volunteers to work with us in the future. If you are interested in joining us, please send us an email.
