Our latest survey - results so far 11.05.2021
We recently launched a survey in the lead up to neighbourhood watch week which is due to take place between 5th June 2021 - 11th June 2021.
The survey was shared with members who have registered as official members of our scheme. We also shared the survey with members of our Facebook group.
The questions had been set by the Neighbourhood Watch. We decided that there were some really good questions that we could ask members of our community about their thoughts on how they feel about living in Arleston.
We have received a number of responses so far. We would like to share some of the responses that we have received.
Questions
1. What do you think are the three best things about our neighbourhood? What do you like most about living here?
We received a number of answers that were duplicated by those who had completed the survey. Some of the answers that we received were:
Close to amenities
Close to the motorway
Living close to woodland
Good local schools
Close to the station
Good neighbours
2. is safety a concern for our neighbourhood?
As you will see from the current result below, safety within our neighbourhood is a concern.
We would like to reassure members of our community that we will do whatever we can to increase safety in Arleston. We will continue to work with our safer neighbourhood team based at Wellington Station. We have regular meetings and phone calls with our local officers to address and discuss any concerns that residents may have.
We also work with 3rd parties too. We have done a lot of work with our local councillor, Angela McClements. We will continue to address any concerns that our community has with Angela. Angela has been very approachable since we launched our scheme. Angela has already helped to make positive changes within our community. Our working relationship will continue with Angela in building a safer neighbourhood for us all to live in.
We will also continue to work with our local council and third parties too.
3. What do you think are the top 3 crime and community safety issues? What makes you feel unsafe?
Please see some of the answers that we received from participants below. As you will see, drug dealing, anti social behaviour, speeding & parking issues are the top issues that residents are concerned about.
We would like to remind all residents that if you witness any instances of drug dealing, anti social behaviour or any other crime, you must report it to the Police. We cannot stress enough how important it is that you report these types of crime.
We understand that some residents may be worried about reporting crimes or suspicious activities to the Police. However, we can assure you that it is in the best interests of yourselves and your fellow neighbours, if crimes & suspicious behaviour is reported.
You can report any information anonymously to the Police via 101 or via the police website www.westmercia.police.uk
Alternatively, please report any information that you may have via crimestoppers.
4. What makes these issues important to you?
Residents within our neighbourhood advised that you are concerned about the safety of yourselves and your family members. Many of you advised that you do not want to live in an area where anti social behaviour and drug dealing is a problem.
Some families were worried about anti social behaviour and they feel scared to let their children play outdoors. They are also worried about visiting our local parks due to the worry of being targeted by those who cause anti social behaviour.
Residents also raised their concerns about speeding vehicles that travel along our local roads. We want to reassure residents that we are doing all that we can to address issues that you have raised. We have reported instances of crime to the Police if we have been made aware of incidents taking place. We continue to work with the police to seek advice about these issues.
We are also continuing to work with third parties such as our local council & our local councillor to address issues such as speeding, anti social behaviour & parking issues.
However, we need your help too. If you become aware of a crime taking place, please report it as soon as possible. If you become aware of an issue within our community, please refer it to us and we will either act on your behalf or give you advice on what to do next.
We want to build a safer community for residents of all ages to live in. With your help and the assistance of 3rd parties, we will be able to make some positive changes for all.
5. What do you think would make a difference?
We received a number of different responses to this question. Many of you want to see more police patrolling our streets. With an increased police presence on our streets, you hope that it would deter criminals from causing crime within our area.
Please see some of the responses to this question below
This survey will be shared with our local police officers, our local councillor and local council for them to see your feedback. We will continue to work with these 3rd parties in addressing your issues and will do what we can to build a safer place to live.
6. How could neighbours and local organisations work better together on what is good in our area to tackle one or more of the issues effecting our neighbourhood?
We are pleased to share some of the feedback we received in response to this question below
It would be great if we could all come together as a community in sharing our ideas and best practices when it comes down to living in Arleston. We need to encourage more people to engage with local police. Also more publicity if possible about the neighbourhood watch scheme.
People taking more pride in the area. The street I live on seems to have more rubbish on the road following bin day where the food bins are emptied quickly and half of the food is left on the pavement. This is the same for the rubbish in the bins ending up on the road and left there by the bin men. An untidy street doesn’t lead to people wanting to take pride and keep there own area tidy.
could actually take our own children to task for a start...People around here are generally very friendly. Where is the pride? The community spirit?? Come on people!
Police have got to work on their relationship with the public, the community needs to feel safe to report things and not feel unsafe if they do.
Ensure lighting actually works and is reported timely by residents. Drug deals are reported without fear. Security cameras installed. Schools get involved with youth antisocial behaviour.
More CCTV within our neighbourhood.
More residents to take responsibility in reporting crime and any environmental issues that they may have.
Regular meetings within our community.
7. If you could change one thing to make our area better, what would it be?
We received a number of answers that were duplicated amongst members of our community. We are pleased to share some of the responses below:
More police on our streets
Regular community meetings
People having respect for one another
Less litter on our streets
The area needs a face lift. Other areas have lots of money spent on them to make them more appealing
Road safety
Better parking facilities
Churchill Road Park to be improved with newer equipment for children of all ages. To include equipment for disabled children too
More cctv cameras
Less anti social behaviour
Less instances of drug dealing taking place
8. Do you feel you have a say on crime prevention and community safety within our area?
The majority of residents who completed our survey said that don't feel they have a say on crime prevention or community safety within Arleston.
9. Would you be prepared to act to make a change? Ie attend a meeting, connect with your neighbours to act together?
The majority of residents said that they would be prepared to act to make a change.
