Arleston Neighbourhood Watch Week - Litter Pick
Saturday 5th June 2021 & Sunday 6th June 2021
🗑 Litter Pick 🗑
Well done to the street volunteers who met at Arleston Community Centre over the weekend to take part in our litter pick.
14 volunteers including youngsters collected bin bags and litter picks to take on their travels around Arleston to pick up rubbish from our streets.
The contents of this bag included lots of plastic bottles, cans, face masks, takeaway cartons. A dangerous item & drug paraphernalia was also taken off of our streets.
Katie Garvey also took part in the litter pick. Katie picked up plastic drinks bottles, drinks cans, chocolate/sweet wrappers, McDonald's rubbish and one bike saddle! A few masks but most of the rubbish is food and drink wrappers and containers and there are plenty of bins in Arleston. "I've actually applied to be a Street Champion now". "I hate seeing all this rubbish and the effects it has on the environment and wildlife". "It was great to be able to speak to Paul and find out more about the role". Well done Katie and thanks for taking part!
On Sunday 6th June me and my two daughters (age7) took part in the litter picking weekend because we wanted to help to make Arleston a clean and tidy place to live.
We found sweet wrappers, crisp packets and drinks bottle, cans mainly in the park area aswell as the roads, smashed glass was also found in the park in the actual play area and in the field around it which was concerning. Then the main item we found along the streets were fag ends along with some of the other items listed above.
As a result of what we found and how happy we all felt after knowing we had helped to tidy the rubbish up and how much better it looked I have signed up to be a street champion aswell.
Well done Karen & her daughters for taking part 👏
"We enjoyed taking part in the community litter picking today. Both my children were keen to take part as they had done something similar at our school. Helping the environment is a big part of our school ethos.
We picked up litter from areas of Arleston near to our home, picking lots of different items from cigarettes, bottles and even masks. We were happy to help our community and would definitely participate again if there were any litter picks in the future."

My birthday fell during the Neighbourhood Watch litter picking weekend. I chose to go out on my birthday as I wanted to give back to the community that I love. My 8 year old son came with me and he had a thoroughly great time! We cleaned up Windsor Court and then the warden controlled area of bungalows, Hornbeam Close. Our first pick was a mask! There were pop cans & bottles. Food wrappers, broken glass, a few cable ties and more worryingly, 2 small gas canisters. We also picked a lot of cigarette butts, mostly from Hornbeam Close!
A few neighbours came out to speak to us and we told them all about Arleston Neighbourhood Watch and why we were litter picking. It was great to see so many lovely smilie faces!
As a result of taking part I’ve applied to be a Street Champion! Together we can make Arleston a cleaner, safer, more neighbourly place to live.

Did you know?
If you see someone throwing rubbish from a vehicle, please report it to our local council. You don't even need to have the full registration.
Our local council will find the vehicle details and a fine will be put in the post for the registered keeper to pay.
So please make sure you report anyone who you see littering from their car and don't make the costly mistake yourself! Take your rubbish home with you and dispose of correctly
Thank you
