Can you help our street champions?
We are looking for more residents of Arleston to become "Street Champions"
We have a large area to cover between a small number of people and we could really do with some more help.
Ideally we need some volunteers who live on the Kingsland Estate to help that side of Arleston tidy. There are problem areas on that side of our community and we can't rely on just a couple of volunteers to cover such a big area. So if you live on the Kingsland Estate or on Arleston Lane or a road off of Arleston Lane, please kindly consider becoming a volunteer.
"We have a number of local residents who are already Street Champions and can be seen out Litterpicking. One of them, Paul, says he really enjoys reducing the amount of rubbish on the streets and finds it quite therapeutic to pick up litter.
He has also met many more of his neighbours as a result and always enjoys a good friendly chat. He's also pleased to see how much the litter has reduced and how many people now join in in picking it up. Paul's ambition is to make Arleston a Litter Free Zone, enhancing the local environment. We agree with you Paul."
Emma Heskey-Baker said "I have litter picked around the area I live in for a while now so becoming a Street Champion was a natural progression".
My children absolutely love getting involved too and I hope it instills in them, pride for their community and they carry on when they are adults.
I did notice that being a Street Champion is more than just litter picking when I applied online. There’s more you can do like reporting fly tips, abandoned trolleys, cutting back over hanging branches if you are able and even spraying dog poop a bright colour to highlight the problem and deter dog fouling. If you call the council or look on their website there is so much more we can get involved with. If you see me out and about in my wheelchair, give me a wave!
