Our News - 15th July 2021

Due to a number of things that have been happening within our community recently, we thought we would take the opportunity of writing an article to raise more awareness.

Car Crime

Unfortunately, we have been made aware of further instances of car crime.

On Wednesday 14th July 2021, we were advised that an individual had been seen trying the door of a car in a road in Arleston. This happened early evening, so it was still light.

The individual was caught on CCTV and the police have been informed.

We have also been made aware that two vehicles were targeted in Wellington in recent weeks.

The owner of one of the vehicles has made contact with us to advise that he had become the victim of theft. An opportunist was able to gain entry to the vehicle as it had been accidentally left unlocked and stole cash aswell as a sat man. The gentleman's neighbour also had cash stolen from their car too.

We would like to remind all residents to ensure that their vehicles are locked when not in use. 44% of cars that were broken into via an unlocked door.

Owners often forget that personal belongings within the vehicle are at as much risk of being stolen as the vehicle itself. Make sure you empty your vehicle of any valuables. Do not leave anything on show.

80% of vehicle crime occurs during the evening or throughout the night. Try to park your vehicle in a well lit or busy area.

If you have access to CCTV, please check footage regularly.

If you become a victim of theft, please ensure that you inform the Police by calling 101. Alternatively, you can report online via www.westmercia.police.uk

Hate crime

We are all very much aware of the increase in hate crime recently due to abuse in which three England footballers have received.

On 14th July 2021, we were made aware of two separate incidents of hate crime.

Our neighbourhood watch scheme would like to echo that we have no place for hate crime in this country.

We were shocked and saddened to hear that several local residents had been subjected to verbal abuse on the same day.

We have spoken to the Police about one of the incidents and we were advised that racism will not be tolerated and anyone found to be using any offensive behaviour will be dealt with accordingly

If you should witness someone being racially abused or you become the victim of such abuse, please call the Police on 101. Alternatively, please report online via www.westmercia.police.uk

Anti social behaviour

Unfortunately, it seems that anti social behaviour has been taking place again within our community.

We have been made aware that children of mixed ages have been congregating on a field within a housing estate in Arleston. These individuals have been causing disturbances for local residents.

Can we please ask all parents who have children who play outdoors within our community to be considerate of fellow residents. We appreciate that children love to play. That isn't the issue. It's the disruptive behaviour that they cause that is becoming a problem again.

One resident has made contact with us to advise that she cannot keep her windows open due to shouting and screaming from a group of children. At present, we are experiencing high temperatures and we may need to open our windows for air to circulate. Residents shouldn't have to keep their windows shut due to the noise caused by groups of children.

Another resident has contacted us because a group of children have been kicking a football across a busy road. Not only is this dangerous to passing cars, there are also houses nearby too.

The police are taking reports of anti social behaviour seriously. If you witness anti social behaviour taking place, please call the Police on 101. Please provide as much information as you can about who is involved and where anti social behaviour is taking place.

We have been working with the Police, our local councillor and other authorities recently due to an increase in anti social behaviour again. We will continue to work with the authorities and do whatever we can to support residents who become victims of this type of behaviour.

As we approach the summer holidays, we would like to remind our fellow neighbours that next week is "Anti Social Behaviour Awareness Week".

Throughout the week, we will be sharing information with our scheme members and followers across social media that may help prevent anti social behaviour from taking place. So please ensure you keep an eye out for more information coming soon.

We are also appealing for victims of anti social behaviour to come forward. We would like to feature stories from victims of anti social behaviour so we can raise awareness of how this type of crime effects residents.

If you have been a victim of anti social behaviour in the past and you would like to share your story, please send us an email to arlestonneighbourhoodwatch@gmail.com
Alternatively, please send us a message via our Facebook pages

The Big Steeraway Stroll

You may or may not be aware that on 4th December 2020, a scoping opinion was submitted to Telford & Wrekin Council proposing the installation of a 17.5 hectare solar farm and ancillary infustructure on the land of Steeraway Farm, Wellington.

For more information about "Stop Steeraway Solar Farm", please visit the link below

As a local community, we don't want to see this beautiful area being developed in this way. Therefore, we are launching "The Big Steeraway Stroll" in partnership with "Stop Steeraway Farm" to raise more awareness of the beautiful countryside that is right on our doorstep.

Join us on Monday 19th July 2021 at 2pm as we launch this new community event.

If you would like to join us for the launch of this community event, please confirm your attendance by visiting the link below

Please meet us at the first gate on the left after the motorway bridge!

From 19th July 2021, we would ask all our fellow neighbours to take a stroll along the beautiful countryside throughout the summer holidays!

Take photos of the scenery and share them with us on our pages and groups. We would like to see photos of animals and scenery and photos of you, your family & friends as you enjoy a stroll through this beautiful area.

Please note, as Limekiln Lane is a restricted byway from the M54 bridge, cars are not permitted to drive/park.

We are also planning other activities for children to run along side "The Big Steeraway Stroll" throughout the summer holidays! So please keep an eye out on our social media channels for more information coming soon!

Mobile Police Station

Don't forget that our local police officers will be at Arleston Community Centre on Wednesday 21st July 2021 between 15pm - 16pm.

This is your opportunity to discuss any concerns that you may have in person with one of our local police officers.

The team are hoping to provide a bike marking service due to recent instances of bike theft.

If you are unable to attend, you can register your bike via the link below

Meeting with Deputy Police Crime Commissioner

In May of this year, we sent an email to the Police Crime Commissioner for West Mercia Police.

We approached him about providing some funding for our scheme.

We are pleased to confirm that we have been invited to a meeting to meet with his deputy, Tracey Onslow.

We are going to request funding to provide more CCTV cameras around Arleston. If there is anything that you would like us to raise for consideration, please send us an email to arlestonneighbourhoodwatch@gmail.com or send us a message via our Facebook page
