Welcome to the latest edition of our newsletter!
In this month's edition of our newsletter, we will bring you upto date with what's happened in September.
Crime Stats
Please see the crime stats for August 2021 for Arleston & College
Instances of crime in August, were lower than July 2021 which is good to see.
Theft from vehicles
There have been several instances of theft from vehicles in Arleston within the past few weeks.
The thefts that we have been made aware of have taken place on Arleston Lane & Festival Gardens, Manor Rise & Bayley Road.
A vehicle was left unlocked on Arleston Lane and a thief gained entry to the vehicle and took items that had been left inside.
A vehicle was also left unlocked on Bayley Road and a thief ransacked the car and stole a bank card.
We would like to remind all residents to ensure that they remove all items from their vehicles before leaving them. Ensure that you lock your vehicle.
Park your vehicle within a well lit area. Turn on your security lights at night, if you have them. If you have a CCTV camera, remember to review footage on a regular basis.
In the event of noticing anyone acting suspiciously around vehicles, please call 999. This will give the police the opportunity of catching the individual whilst they may be still in the area.
In the event of a crime that has already taken place, you can report information by calling 101. Alternatively, please visit the link below to report online.
Car Theft
We have noticed that there is an increase of cars being stolen across the West Midlands. Several cars have been stolen across Telford within the past few months.
Keyless car theft is on the rise. Keyless car theft – also known as relay theft – is relatively simple. With a relay amplifier and a relay transmitter, a thief can detect whether the car has keyless entry.
Working in pairs, criminals identify a house with a car parked nearby and one person stands by the car with a transmitter, while a second waves an amplifier around the perimeter of the house. If the car key is close enough the amplifier will detect its signal, amplify it, and send it to the accomplice’s transmitter.
The transmitter then effectively becomes the key, and tricks the car in to thinking the key is nearby. The theives can then open the car, get in and drive away.
The whole process can take as little as 60 seconds and can be completed in silence.
We would recommend that you purchase a Faraday pouch to keep your car key in. These pouches contain signal blocking materials that stop your key from transmitting it's code. This prevents thieves from being able to detect and amplify the signal.
These pouches can be purchased from Argos and Amazon from as little as £10. A small price to pay to ensure you car is protected against car theft.
You can also refer to a manual or your dealership to see if your car key can be turned off.
You may also want to consider purchasing a steering wheel lock, a wheel clamp or a driveway parking post to protect your vehicle.
We are pleased to share some more information on how to protect your car
Remember....
If you do become a victim of car theft, to report it to the Police as soon as you become aware.
Protect your property
We have been made aware that a prowler was seen trying to gain access to a property in Windsor Court, Arleston during the early hours of one morning.
We would like to share some information with you to help prevent your home from being targeted.
In the event of someone trying to access your property, please call 999 immediately.
If you become aware of someone trying to gain access to a property after the event, please call 101. Alternatively, please report online via
Please ensure that you lock all your doors and windows at any time of day. Regularly review CCTV footage if you do have a CCTV camera.
Please remain vigilant
Thank you
Some good news
We are pleased to share a good news story with you all!
We have always been aware that residents have had concerns about anti social behaviour in our community. Since our scheme was launched in August of last year, we have worked with local authorities to address and discuss instances of anti social behaviour.
Due to concerns raised by local residents including our scheme members, we approached our local councillor & Council about the possibility of having a permanent camera installed after a deployable camera was removed. We also requested a meeting with the Police Crime Commissioner to raise concerns too.
We are pleased to confirm that our hard work has paid off as a permanent CCTV camera has been installed for the next two years on Churchill Road this week following the success of the previous deployable camera.
We would like to thank our local councillor, Angela McClements for all her hard work during the past few months in putting a case forward on behalf of concerned residents. We would also like to thank her for making a contribution from her Pride Fund Allowance towards the costs to ensure this could happen.
Cllr McClements said:
“I’m delighted to have been able to help fund this CCTV camera for Arleston through my Councillors’ Pride Fund allowance and to have worked alongside Arleston Neighbourhood Watch to make this happen.
“These cameras help us work even more closely with our partners at West Mercia Police and the Police Crime Commissioner and provide invaluable reassurance to residents.”
Arrest
We were made aware that a 16yr old had been arrested on Churchill Road, Arleston on 28th September 2021.
We would like to remind our scheme members and our followers, that if you witness any instances of anti social behaviour or public order, please call the Police. As a community, we really need to come together and report any information that we are aware of to prevent crime from taking place within our community.
Join our scheme
We would like to encourage residents of Arleston, College and in some areas of Wellington to join our scheme.
We want to do all that we can to ensure that residents feel that they live within a safe community. We will continue to work with the Police, the council, our local councillor and other agencies to raise and address any issues of concern.
We send out regular alerts to our scheme members to let them know of what is happening in our area. Members also receive regular newsletters from Neighbourhood Watch too. You will also be able to take part in surveys too.
There are also discounts available too for scheme members with 10% discount on Co-op Home insurance and a discount on Patlock French window locks.

A new Chief Constable for West Mercia Police
We would like to welcome Pippa Mills as the new Chief Constable for West Mercia Police.
Pippa only started her new role with the force in the last few weeks, and has already visited Telford.
John Campion, the force's Police Crime Commissioner, spoke to Pippa on her first day in her new role for a podcast.
The episode is very informative and it's a fantastic insight in to Pippa's previous employment with Essex Police.
If you would like to find out more about our new Chief Constable, we recommend that you have a listen to the podcast via the link below
We would like to wish Pippa, all the very best in her new role!
A reminder about parking
Residents have continued to raise their concerns about the way in which some vehicles are parked in our community.
In some areas of our community, vehicles have been parked on the pavement which can prevent someone from being unsafe.
Vehicles parked in this manner do not leave enough room for pedestrians, young families & residents who may use mobility equipment, to get past.
We have continued to support residents who have been effected by how some vehicles have been parked. The Police and our local council have been made aware of the issues.
May we remind residents, to please consider other road users and pedestrians when parking their car. As you will see from the alert above, vehicles may be removed if they are causing an obstruction. Fines may be incurred and there may be costs for recovery too!
You have been warned...
Volunteer opportunities
If you would like to help our community by sparing a few hours a week/month, there are several roles that you may be interested in!
If you like to spend time walking and keeping fit, why not consider becoming a Street Champion?
Street Champions are volunteers who play an active role in taking pride in their community. They care about their local area, look out for their neighbours and want a clean, safe place to live. If you are one of these highly valued individuals, the Council will help you to make your community spirit go even further.
There are a range of things you can choose to do as a Street Champion and it is up to you to decide what you want to do in your local neighbourhood. The roles are broken down into three key areas.
Doing
For example - litter picking, cutting back overhanging branches, pruning, maintaining community gardens, spraying dog poo with a bright coloured paint to deter dog fouling, linking in with the work of your local Parish or Town Council or supporting community events.
Reporting
By keeping a regular eye on your local area you can help us identify local issues, so they can be dealt with as quickly as possible.
Projects
From time to time there may be opportunities for volunteers to take part in other environmental projects. This could include awareness raising campaigns or data collection for example
If you would like to become a Street Champion, you can apply via the link below
Equipment is provided, so what are you waiting for? Apply today!
Get involved with our scheme
If you would like to get involved with the running of our scheme, we would love to hear from you.
We would really like to reach more members of our community and tell them about our scheme and the benefits of joining!
If you are already a member, please consider mentioning the scheme to your family, friends, work colleagues or neighbours who live in our community. We would like to bring our community together to acknowledge any environmental issues that there may be.
We want to create a safer environment for residents of all ages. If you would like to get involved, please confirm your interest by sending us a message on our Facebook page via the link below
We are also looking for someone who can help with creating graphics or video content for our social media channels.
If you would like to volunteer for any of these roles, please let us know!
We look forward to hearing from you!
